BOLTON NEWS
Food festival award winners
10:47am Tuesday 28th November 2006
By Wes Wright »
TWO popular restaurants have received a top Bolton Food and Drink
Festival award.
The Olympus Fish and Chip Restaurant in Bolton and The Royal Balti
House in Farnworth were joint winners of the Favourite Festival
Restaurant of the Year.
The competition was jointly organised by Bolton Council's tourism
department and The Bolton News. The owners were presented with
certificates by Cllr Ebrahim Adia, whose responsibilities cover
tourism.
Readers were asked to vote for and described why their favourite
restaurant should win the prestigious award.
More than 2,000 entries flooded in and in the end judges from the
tourism department could not decide between the two and so split the
award.
The two winning readers Jim Harrison, of Garstang Avenue, Bolton,
who voted for the Royal Balti House and Patricia Bridge, of Salters
Court, Atherton, who voted for the Olympus, will share the prize -
£100 worth of meals between them.
Owner of the Royal Balti House in Market Street, Farnworth, Nurul
Islam Meah said: "I am delighted to have won this award - it means a
lot to myself and the staff. Our customers are our friends and we
often serve them dishes we know they would like."
Tassos Patichis, who owns the Olympus Fish and Chip Restaurant on
Great Moor Street, Bolton, said: "We feel we have been rewarded by
our loyal customers who like good food allied with good
old-fashioned manners. We will endeavour to keep on producing
excellent food and service in the future."
Cllr Adia said: "They have both deservedly achieved a good
reputation and the council has been delighted to have been involved
with the food festival."
