IT was a case of success on a plate for Pat and Jim Bridge on their
latest visit to the Olympus Fish and Chip Restaurant - to enjoy a
meal on the house.
Jim and Lesley Harrison also enjoyed a free meal, at the Royal Balti
House in Farnworth.
The couples were chosen from thousands of readers who voted for
their favourite restaurant as part of Bolton's first Food and Drink
Festival.
The winning restaurants were the Olympus, selected by Pat and Jim,
and The Royal Balti, chosen by Jim and Lesley.
The couples were deemed to have written the best 50 words about
their favourite restaurant in The Bolton News competition.
Jim and Pat have been visiting the Olympus for years and love "the
food, the old world charm and the manners shown by the staff".
Pat, aged 61, said: "The standards never drop, staff are courteous
and attentive and help people with their coats - good old fashioned
manners which have gone out of fashion in recent years but are
consistent at the Olympus.
"I had the moussaka and my husband had the fish and chips and they
were both wonderful. We both had a sweet and a glass of wine as well
followed by coffee and mints."
For Jim, aged 56, and 52-year-old Lesley Harrison, of Garstang
Avenue, Bolton, the Royal Balti House, is more than just a
restaurant - the staff there have become friends.
"We have been going there for the last 10 years or so and we have
got to know everyone there really well. The head waiter will adjust
dishes to personal taste.
"The food is always very good. We particularly enjoy the tandoori
prawns and the lamb dishes are superb. My wife enjoys the chicken
madras.
"We usually go there at least twice a week."
